Easter surprise…

We’ve had a good week of rod building up until the Easter weekend interrupted. Involving final planing, gluing and straightening a couple of rods. We’re hoping to have the rod section of our site up and running for orders in the next month – Very exciting!

The Easter weekend has presented me with an opportunity to get out and fish though, and I’m hoping to have a go on a canal tomorrow with the fly rod after Pike and hopefully a big Perch! In preparation I have spruced up a couple of my Pike/Perch flies that were looking a bit sorry for themselves after catching a few (see below).

The one above had lost it’s eyes and zonker strip tail after an over exuberant pike or two had gotten a hold of it. I replaced this and completely re-tied another one.

They may look a little ‘raggedy’ but once in the water they become a completely different animal with superb movement even when not stripping in.

The white/red colour combination is my favourite although I also have more ‘colourful’ combinations tied up too in my fly box. I also have a few poppers which is a thrilling way to catch a pike on the fly rod. I prefer to tie my pike flies using rabbit zonker strips and marabou as I think it offers the best movement.

With a bit of luck I’ll have some sort of catch report for you tomorrow.
