Split Cane Coarse Rods

Our handbuilt coarse rods are built to the same critical tolerances and attention to detail as our fly rods.

As with our fly rods, we offer a range of ‘custom’ options built around our standard rod tapers. Options include whipping colours, hardware colour and finish.

The rods can be whipped using any colour thread although you’ll see our recommendations next to each rod type below.

We can fit any available coloured fittings to our rods, so just tell us what your looking for.

Finishes can vary from a mirror-like gloss to a less glossy satin finish for those sunny days when taking care not to spook your quarry.

Below are our signature rods but if you’d like something a little different, please don’t hesitate to contact us with your requirements.

The Chevin

— £975 —

‘The Chevin’ as the name suggests is our own split cane taper designed specifically for Chub.

At 11′ long and in three sections it is perfect for for targetting ‘old white lips’!

The rod picks off where the ‘Willow’ left off. Whereas the Willow has a classic taper based upon the lucky strike – ‘The Chevin’ has a more modern, faster feel yet still maintains the joys of using cane.

As well as being well balanced for chub, the rod lends itself well to fish of similar size, such as the tench. The rod is hollow built and fitted with high bell rings enabling easy trotting or light to medium ledgering.

It is available whipped in any colour, although we really like bottle green or claret for both rings and intermediates.

Available light or dark flamed.

Barbus Barbus

— £1000 —

‘Barbus Barbus’ is our own split cane taper designed specifically for Barbel.

At 11′ long and in two sections it is perfect for most rivers that hold stocks of the hard fighting Barbel.

Fitted with a 30″ cork handle, metal button butt cap, blued brass ferrules and a full set of ‘low bell’ rings. The rod is hollow built to keep the weight of the rod down.

The taper holds many of the characteristics of the MKIV but with a stepped up butt section, and more powerful middle.

It is available whipped in any colour, although we really like bottle green and claret for both rings and intermediates. Available light or dark flamed.

The Willow

— £925 —

The Willow is the perfect all rounder. We’ve spent a long time developing this rod and looked closely at classic rods such as the Allcocks Lucky Strike to allow the angler to enjoy sport from all fish. From small roach and other silver fish to modest sized barbel/carp, The Willow can handle it all and give endless enjoyment.

At 10′ 6 and in three equal lengths, The Willow is perhaps best suited to more intimate waters. It is just as happy sat in a rod rest or perhaps touch ledgering as it is waiting intently to see your float bob and drift away.

The Willow is fitted with blued brass ferrules hand lapped to give the perfect fit. Each ferrule has its own protective stopper. The cork handle is finished perfectly with an onion shape.
We recommend our ‘deep blue’ or ‘burgundy’ colours to compliment this rod, accompanied with high bell rings.

Line breaking strains between 4-8lb are most suited to The Willow’s action.

Available light or dark flamed.

A rod that lends itself to any occasion.

MKIV Carp

— £900 —

The MKIV Carp needs little introduction, designed by Richard Walker and remade by many. Our version is built to the exact dimensions that Richard Walker intended.

Fitted with a 28″ cork handle, aluminium butt cap, blued brass ferrules, a full set of ‘low bell’ rings and an agate butt guide. The rod is hollow built to keep the weight of the rod down.

The perfect rod for stalking big carp between the lillies, ledgering for chub and barbel and will even lend itself to spinning for pike and salmon.

It is available whipped in any colour, although we really like bottle green or claret for both rings and intermediates.

Available light or dark flamed.
